Bike Commuter of the Year
Jenn Rodriguez
Santa Clara County
Jenn is an inspiration to many commuters who see her make her 11.5 trek from Santa Clara to Palo Alto. Since 1994, when she began commuting by bicycle to build endurance for weekend rides with ACTC, she has encouraged and educated others on the benefits of cycling. “In general, bicycling is not just good for your physical health,” she say, “but because it’s so easy to do it’s great for your emotional health as well.”
An active member of the bicycling community, she is involved with Almaden Cycle Touring Club, Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, League of American Bicyclists, and California Bike Coalition, among others. It is no wonder that a bicyclist recently told Jenn, “I used to drive my car everyday and see you on your bike, and now I’m on my bike!”
Jenn says her employer, Roche Palo Alto, LLC, is supportive of bicycling, providing bicycle lockers, showers, and even emergency rides home if needed. She is happy with the improvements the City of Santa Clara has added to improve bicycling, noting the the Sharrows on Forbes Avenue and new bike lanes on Homestead.
“These are good times for bike commuters and it keeps getting better!”
SVBC is glad that Jenn is out there, making the commute better for everyone.
