Centerline Rumble Strips
SVBC has joined with the California Bicycle Coalition, CABO, and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition to request that Caltrans declare a moratorium on the installation of centerline rumble strips until standards are developed that address the impacts on bicycling.
These rumble strips have been installed on Highway 84 in Santa Clara and Alameda counties. Because they narrow the traffic lanes, and discourage motorists from crossing the centerline, they can have the undesired effect of motorists passing dangerously close to a bicyclist.
This item is on the August 7 California Bicycle Advisory Committee agenda. That meeting is held in Sacramento the first Thursday of alternative months at Dept of Transportation Building, 1120 N St, Sacramento, Room 2116.
