The instructor training is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the SRTS National Course and practical experience in course delivery. Ten participant slots are available. Applications will be accepted until August 1 and all applicants will be notified of selection status by August 22. Participants are expected to confirm their attendance by August 29, 2008.
This round of instructor training seeks to help meet demand and enable more communities to receive the Course. Since 2004, the Safe Routes to School National Course has been taught throughout the country by instructors trained by the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center and the National Center for Safe Routes to School.
The SRTS National Course provides a comprehensive overview of the need for SRTS and the strategies available to both improve conditions for walking and bicycling to school and to encourage more participation in these activities. This one-day course was developed through a partnership of funding from the Federal Highway Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Environmental Protection Agency.
